SaskEnergy Files Applications To Reduce Costs For Consumers

SaskEnergy announced Monday it has filed requests with the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel (SRRP) to adjust its commodity and delivery rates. If implemented, these changes will reduce annual average bills for residential customers by $54 and the former farm customer class by $106.

This will be the lowest commodity rate for SaskEnergy customers in more than eight years.

SaskEnergy continues to encourage Saskatchewan natural gas consumers to take steps to keep improving the energy efficiency of their homes and businesses. Since 2001, more than 50,000 Saskatchewan customers have been assisted with programs such as the Saskatchewan EnerGuide for Houses and the Energy Star Prime Rate Loan Program. Saskatchewan residents continue to lead Canada in the take-up of these initiatives.

Growth Spurt: Saskatchewan Growing At Fastest Pace In More Than 50 Years

Saskatchewan’s population increased by 16,509, between July 1, 2008 and July 1, 2009. That’s the largest population increase in any 12-month period since 1952-53.

Saskatchewan grew by 4,491 people in the second quarter of 2009 and now stands at 1,030,129 – the first time the population has topped the 1,030,000 mark since 1987.

Premier Brad Wall said the province’s continued growth is one more sign Saskatchewan is moving forward.

“Even during a recession, more and more people are discovering what many of us have known for a long time – Saskatchewan is a great place to live,” Wall said. “More people are staying here. More people are moving here. And it all adds up to the fastest rate of growth in more than 50 years.”
