Christine Tell addressing constituents at June 22 picnic.
1st Constituency Picnic Successful
We
were delighted to have a beautiful day on June 22 at Hawrylak School for our
first annual constituency picnic, Approximately 200 people attended the
event and enjoyed a BBQ, games, face painting etc. I
would like to thank co-chairs Kathleen Peterson and Randy Schellenberg and
their committee for their tireless efforts.

To Host 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship This
week Hockey Canada selected Saskatchewan to host the 2010 International Ice
Hockey Federation World Under 20 Championship. I’m thrilled to
congratulate the Saskatchewan Bid Committee on this exciting achievement. The
2010 World Junior Hockey Championship Games will be held in Saskatoon,
Regina and other communities from December 22, 2009 to January 5, 2010. “This
is a tremendous opportunity for the province to demonstrate our hospitality
and genuine love of sport,” my colleague Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport
Minister Christine Tell said. “This championship will generate significant
economic benefits for the province and will showcase Saskatchewan on the
world stage.” The
championship is anticipated to generate more than $24.6 million in economic
activity in the province and over $2.4 million in provincial tax revenue.
When Saskatchewan hosted the Juno Awards in 2007, they generated $9.4
million in economic activity. The
Government of Saskatchewan is providing $3 million towards the operational
costs of the event. All levels of government are committed to a profit
guarantee of $12.5 million, of which the provincial government is
responsible for $8.9 million. Historically, ticket sales have been very
strong and the loan guarantee amount is projected to be surpassed. “While
Regina and Saskatoon will host the major championship games, we plan to
engage communities throughout the province with exhibition games to be held
in a number of centres,” Tell said. “In this way all Saskatchewan people
will benefit from the province being selected to host the 2010 World Junior
Hockey Championship.”

Studies Posted Online By SaskPower This
week our government fulfilled a promise Premier Brad Wall made while
Opposition Leader. Wall advocated transparency and availability of nuclear
power studies already done in Saskatchewan. Access reports posted by

THE BENEFITS Providing
financial support for disaster relief and healthcare, or taking steps to
ensure vibrant rural communities, are examples of how your Saskatchewan
Party government is making sure everyone shares in the benefits of growth.
In this time of unprecedented prosperity, it is important no one gets left
behind. That is why Premier Brad Wall has asked MLAs to go home this
summer, and find out what people’s priorities are. You can also
provide that input online, by visiting http://gov.sk.ca
and clicking on “Sharing the Benefits.” With your help, we will
chart a course for the future that ensures Saskatchewan will continue to
grow.
