CHRISTINE TELL MLA – Provincial Update – September 14, 2010

Christine Puts Rumours to Rest – I’m Running in 2011

Last night before a full house in Emerald Park, Christine laid to rest the rumour that she wasn’t going to run in the next election.

Tell stated, “I must say the rumours are not based on fact. I have spent a lot of time over the summer questioning whether I am the best person to represent you in government. I believe that you are best represented by an MLA in cabinet. However, I also believe you are best represented by someone who is honest, ethical, hard working and takes seriously what you have elected me to do.

Right now, this person is me.

I will continue to serve you to the best of my ability and we must focus our efforts on winning this constituency again in 2011.

Saskatchewan Moving Forward

Saskatchewan is a much different province today as compared to when we took office in November 2007.

Premier Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party represent the “new” Saskatchewan — a forward-looking, growing, optimistic, confident province.

During the recent recession;

·        we broke our own population record not once, but twice; In June of this year, our province’s population hit an all-time high of 1,041,729

·        we broke our employment record with more people working in Saskatchewan than ever before; Saskatchewan has set employment records for six consecutive months and we now have the lowest unemployment rate in the nation.

·        we broke our immigration record;

·        after 17 years of declining enrolment in our K-12 system, enrolment at our schools is actually on the rise.

·        Urban housing starts in the province were up 83 per cent in the first seven months of this year, while oil drilling is rebounding this year with a 96 per cent increase so far in 2010 when compared to 2009.

·        Building permits are also on the rise, while the sale of Crown petroleum and natural gas rights is up seven-fold over this period last year.

Kidney Transplant Program Partially Resumed

Health care is the number one issue for Saskatchewan people.  Our government is taking steps to ensure the action we take reflects that priority.  We recently announced the partial resumption of the Kidney Transplant Program.  Saskatchewan residents, who are receiving a living related donor kidney transplant, can soon have their surgery in Saskatchewan.  Our government has also increased program funding by up to $2 million to assist with initiatives such as recruiting additional surgeons and promoting organ donation.

Land Secured

Our government recently reached an agreement with Canadian Pacific Railway to secure an area in downtown Regina for a new facility.  Although this conditional sale agreement does not mean that the proposed facility is going to be built, it does mean that a location is in place if a decision is reached to build the facility.  We expect to make a final decision this fall on the future of the entertainment facility.  Discussions for financial contributions are underway with the federal government, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and City of Regina.
